Historical information

Between 2021 – 2024 Malcolm Qualtrough colourised a selection of black and white historical photographs of Bendigo and surrounding towns.
The original photographs were sourced from a range of collections that are acknowledged for each photograph.
The photos were painted using CODIJY software. Photo restoration was done using Pixelmator Pro, and enhancement with Topaz AI. The colours are interpretive and are based on Malcolm’s boyhood memories of growing up and living in Bendigo.

The Lewis and Nickinson's crushing battery at the Balaclava Mine, Whroo,
The Baud and Bazeley's Balaclava Store on the north side of the Balaclava Hill, Whroo, and
Balaclava Hill, Whroo, from the north.
All colourised from the original black and white photos by from the State Library of Victoria – Author / Creator Unknown
