Historical information

The photographs shows MMTB track renewal work in Flinders St during 1971. The first photo shows W2 tram 408 and a wide body tram behind running while work is being carried out, with several workers standing clear. The second photo shows a replacement cross over installed near Queen St. In the background are Flinders St Station and the Gas and Fuel buildings. Fletcher Jones building is on the left hand side of the second photo.

Significance

Yields information about undertaking trackwork while running trams and the minimal closing of the roadway to motor traffic.
