The photograph shows W1 class tram 423 in Swanston St about to turn into Victoria St shunts. The tram has the return destination of Eslternwick and is showing route 4E. The tram entered service in March 1927 and was converted to a W2 class tram in August 1936. In the background is the Melbourne baths buildings and a W2 class tram.
