Significance

Significant to mining history of Bendigo.

Physical description

Black and white photograph: six workmen positioning the metal sinking cage over the Napoleon shaft. Cage is suspended by ropes from the cross beams of the headframe. Two railway tracks leading to shaft, presumably to transport the sinking cage to site. Workman on left hand side has a hammer inserted on his belt.
