Artwork is a laser etching of a photo taken by Sgt Peter Ward of the Royal Australian Army Educational Corps (Public Relations) in 1970. He took the shot because it demonstrates the load typically carried by Australian soldiers on operations. The subject is Sgt Peter Buckney of Grovely, Qld. He is moving along a jungle path during Operation Atherton in southern Long Khanh Province. Sgt Buckney's unit, D company of 8th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (8RAR), was conducting its first major operation since arriving in Vietnam.
