Historical information

The 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (1 RAR) completed two tours of South Vietnam between 1965 and 1969. They were the first Australian infantry battalion sent to the war, initially attached to the US 173rd Airborne Brigade. in 1968, 1RAR participated in the Battle of Coral–Balmoral, Australia’s longest and bloodiest engagement of the war.
