With the expansion of railways in the colonies that made up Australia in the 1860s, the area that was to becme known as the Riverina was no different to other productive farming areas insofar as seeking reliable and cheap means of conveying produce to the estavlished populated cities. The story of railways and Deniliquin is two-fold, one of success and the other of disappointment.
