Photograph - Group photo, 1978

Historical information

In 1978, the Lions Club of Ivanhoe raised $6500 for the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria (RAAV) to purchase a vehicle for its Action Program. In this photo, RAAV member, Laurie Griffiths, accepts delivery of the vehicle on behalf of the Association from the outgoing and incoming presidents of the club. A slightly cropped version of this photo appears on page 8 of the Vol 9, July 1978 issue of RAAV's quarterly newsletter, News Review. It is captioned: "R.A.A.V.'s Laurie Griffiths looks very pleased as he takes delivery of our new car from Mr John Fawcett, out-going President of the Ivanhoe Lions' Club, while the in-coming President Mr Ed Doherty looks on." The photo accompanies an article titled, "Gift from Ivanhoe Lions". The article reports on the donation of the vehicle for use in RAAV's Action Program, which aims to expand its services into suburban and country areas.
