Photograph - Group photo, 1996

Historical information

The theme for the 1996 National Arthritis Week (NAW) was "Ring the Bells for Arthritis", with the Glen Iris Handbell Ringers performing at the launch. There was a Joint Walk along Southgate, beside the Yarra River in Melbourne - one of around 24 Joint Walks held across Victoria during the 1996 NAW. In addition, there was a "Making Life Easier" expo held on the day. In this photo, a group of people gather in the park after the Joint Walk. There is a brief report on this and other events held that week on pages 9 and 10 of the 1996 Annual Report.

Some people are sitting on chairs placed around a large blue and white marquee, while others are standing on the grass or on a concrete path and driveway leading to a weatherboard building. There are also a few people gathered inside the marquee, under which there are some rectangular tables. Some people are wearing a red vest with "MARSHALL" in white text. Many are wearing blue and white sunvisors. There is an A-frame sandwich board on the driveway, containing the text, "Ring the Bells for Arthritis - Arthritis Week Joint Walk". To the left of the marquee, there is a large white and blue "Move it or Lose it" banner. Behind the marquee, there is a large white and blue "ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION OF VICTORIA" banner. There is some discolouration on the right hand side of the Photographic image, in the form of a bright orange circle and some vertical lines.
