Historical information

The 1998 National Arthritis Week (NAW) was launched by Ita Buttrose - journalist, editor, and spokesperson for the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria (AFV), now known as Arthritis Victoria (AV). Various sportspersons were also at the launch to help spread the message about exercise and better health outcomes. In this photo, Ita Buttrose poses for a photo with Vice Captain of the Australian Netball Team, Shelley O'Donnell, and Co-Captain of the St Kilda Football Team, Nathan Bourke. A similar photo, depicting Shelley O'Donnell and Nathan Burke lunging forward while pushing their hands onto Ita Buttrose's shoulders, appears on page 1 (front cover) of the Vol 11 Issue 2, Winter 1998 edition of the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria's quarterly magazine, Arthritis Update. It is captioned: "Ita Buttrose, launches National Arthritis Week Arthritis [sic] with the help of Shelley O'Donnell, Vice Captain Australian netball [sic] and Nathan Burke, Co-Captain St. Kilda".
