Historical information

The 1998 National Arthritis Week (NAW) was launched by Ita Buttrose - journalist, editor, and spokesperson for the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria (AFV), now known as Arthritis Victoria (AV). Various sportspersons were also at the launch to help spread the message about exercise and better health outcomes. This photo depicts a man dressed as a Town Crier making an announcement to officially launch the event.

Physical description

COL medium close up photo of a man dressed in a traditional costume, standing in a gymnasium or stadium. His costume consists of a white shirt with a frilled lace neck, a black vest, a red jacket with gold brocade trimming, white trousers, and a black hat with gold brocade trim and a large rosette featuring a coat of arms design in the centre. He is unrolling a leather scroll and has a brass bell tucked between his torso and the crook of one arm. Behind him, there are three freestanding vertical banners in white with the text, 'Move It Or Lose It', in blue, followed by the text and logo for 'Arthritis Victoria'.
