Historical information
Frederick Smith was one of the first settlers to take up land in the Johnsonville area in 1870. He was a carpenter and built the "Roadknight house" in Johnsonville which housed the Post Office run by his daughter Annie Roadknight. He tendered for the running of a punt over the Tambo river in January 1877 which he operated until 1886 when it was taken over by the Tambo Shire.
