Audio - Sound recording, Olinda reunion 1992: 50 years on, 1992

Historical information

In 1942, the children who attended the RVIB School were evacuated to Olinda as the Armed Services took over the most of the site until 1945. Remembering the first day at the Georgian House at Olinda, all the children were asked to write home to their family to advise them of their evacuation. As many parents could not read Braille, these letters were taken first to the Braille Library then to the home of a former student, who had to advise them of their child's relocation. At this reunion, 50 years later, the days at Olinda are remembered by the students, two parents and some staff members in various recordings.
