Ephemera - Police tramway ID Constable 6779, Victoria Police, 1923

Certificate of Identity made our for Constable R D Finch, No. 6779, dated 3-10-23 entitling the bearer to 1 1/2d fares on Melbourne's electric trams. Signed by the Chief Commissioner. At the time, the CBD was largely served by cable trams though from the MMTB Minutes of 1923, police officers were given travel concessions. Constable Finch's record from the Victorian Police Museum showed that he was dismissed for taking part in the 1923 Police Strike - see reference.

Significance

Demonstrates a document used by Melbourne police for travel on Melbourne's electric trams and has a strong association with Constable R D Finch.

Physical description

Brown leather folder with two cut out holes, on the inside four retaining strips. Has a preprinted card with rexine on one side with hand written and typed entries.
