The Lazarus New Chum Mining Company was first gazetted in 1871, with Barnett Lazarus the main shareholder with 20,000 shares. (Government Gazette 40 Page 956). The place of operation was 'New Chum'. Physical description
Transverse section of Lazarus mine, showing the 'old shaft' and second shaft with poppet head. Old Chum, New Chum and Thorpe's Reef, Consolidated Reef and Shenandoah Reef are marked on plan. Plan shows 40 levels in the mine with a depth of 3747 feet.
