Historical information

To the Victorian fielders’ unbridled delight, keeper BEN BARNETT gloves a sharp chance, taken from the bowling of HANS EBELING to dismiss MCC opener, Arthur Fagg.

Unusually, when working with a fast bowler, BEN BARNETT is positioned very close to the stumps, making his successful catch all the more difficult.

Due to the wet ball and soggy run up, and the prevailing southerly wind, the wily Victorian Captain, HANS EBELING, firstly altered his run up length.

He was now bowling more at medium pace, hoping to increase the chances of deceiving with movement off the pitch and flight through the air.

The Ebeling plan was successful as he sent the MCC opening pair back to the Pavilion.
