Events of note referenced in the report include:
- The Resignation of the first Medical Director Dr Kaye Scott in March 1954. Dr Kaye Scott remained on staff as a sessional consultant.
- The purchase of 579 Upper Heidelberg Road, Heidelberg by the Anti-Cancer Council of Victoria. The site opened as the "Eila Aubrey Officer Memorial Hostel" 02 November 1955, entrusted to the institute in conjunction with Austin Hospital.
- Radiobiological Research Unit established in March 1956.
- Expansion of the Institutes library service to create the Central Cancer Library. Maintained by the Cancer Institute Board and Anti Cancer Council.
