Photograph - Calbe tram set and crew, 1900s

Historical information

The Photograph shows a cable tram set at a terminus with a conductor and gripman standing in front of the dummy. The location is likely the corner of Carlisle Street and Chapel Street, Prahran as the destination on the dummy is 'Carlton' (later renamed Collingwood) and above the side windows of the car the destination of 'Chapel St' can be seen. Trams from Chapel Street ran a through service to Carlton/Collingwood terminus in Johnston Street. Reference on the lower edge is to the strike on Brisbane Tramways and the refusal of the manager, Mr. Joseph Badger to allow crews to wear union badges.

Significance

Yields information about the cable trams and the tramway strike in Brisbane at the time.
