Historical information
A number of buildings were demolished along the south side of Little Lonsdale Street between St Francis Street and Elizabeth Street for the construction of the new Monastery for the Blessed Sacrament Congregation including a former school building and Advocate Press building. Demolition of the Advocate begun 6 July 1937 and was completed by mid-August. Construction works for the Monastery began soon after and was officially opened by Archbishop Mannix on 1 May 1938.
