Historical information
See 16mm film footage of vintage aircraft
VH UIU and VH UMA,
Both aircraft are bi-planes with folding wings.
The engines are mounted upright.
The gravity supply petrol tanks are fixed
amidships to the top wing.
The straight wings, shape of the rudders, the
wheels and configuration of the undercarriages
all suggest to me that both aircraft are
DH60 CIRRUS MOTHS that would have been built
from 1925 to 1929. The exhaust pipes, which
are mounted on the left side, (later to be
moved by de Havilland to the right side) may
suggest that the two aircraft in the film may
be closer to 1925.
VH UIU may be found from 0 to 58ft and
VH UMA from 185ft to 26ift.
