In 1906, Hugh Victor McKay moved The Sunshine Harvester Works from Ballarat to Sunshine. Two years later he provided nearly four acres for the gardens. These gardens were maintained by the company until this responsibility was transferred to the City of Sunshine in 1953. In 1958, the title of the land was also transferred to the City of Sunshine.
