Historical information
Matsu-no-ke is a design developed by Frederick Carder (1863-1963) and registered by Stevens & Williams of England in 1884. Its distinctive feature is the presence of applied and tooled sprigs of blossom influenced by Japanese designs.
Significance
This vase is a typical example of decorative art vases produced by Stevens & Williams, glassmakers in the late 19th century. The use of a leaf applied motive is unusual. The value of this item is diminished by the large repaired crack around its lower bowl.
