Historical information
Trinket boxes were used to store small treasures, jewellery or keep-sakes. In the Edwardian era (1901-1910) Art Nouveau influence saw designs become more intricate featuring graceful curves and motifs inspired by nature with lighter more delicate designs.
The brass lid is ornate embossed with a floral and scroll design.The lid is similar to those made by Zeccoli D'Azeghio of Bologna, Italy but no maker's mark is visible. Zeccoli is probably a shop name located on d'AZeghio Street in Bologna in early 20th Century. It no longer exists.
Significance
This is a typical Art Nouveau influenced design of the Edwardian era. The embossed lid is intricacy designed. The cut-glass base also features an elaborately worked design in diamond shapes.
