Historical information

The photo shows the perway yard at South Melbourne tram depot which was used to fabricate and assemble special work or track work junctions. IN the view are two sets of trackwork, the one in the centre matches the installation of c1930 for St George Road and Miller St, with the single track lead in the lower centre used for the Preston (later Thornbury) depot. Based on the work orders - see item 7453. photo likely March or April 1929 - see second image file. The second layout has a H crossing included in the work.
