Historical information
Detail of a photograph of HMAS Pioneer at anchor in Hobson's Bay by Allan C GREEN held by the SLV (H91.325/2122). Cropped by Allan MARSHALL to focus on the Port Melbourne foreshore.
Research by David F RADCLIFFE indicates that the Pioneer was commissioned as an Australian ship in March 1913 (previously Royal Navy) and was decommissioned in November 1916. Further examination of newspaper reports on TROVE indicate the image was taken sometime between January and April 1914.
