Historical information

Local libraries throughout Victoria hold thousands of photographs, maps, rate books, voter's roles, memorabilia, personal & public documents and other miscellaneous documents.

The State Library of Victoria initiated the Memory Victoria Project which was funded by the Library Board of Victoria. The scope of the project was to try to understand the significance of local history collections held by local libraries and what would support the strategic preservation of these collections.

There were three components of the project, the Significance Assessment, Conservation Workshops and Conservation Assessments.

In 2006/06, a team of freelance historians conducted 58 significance assessments of local history collections held by 34 participating public libraries, Brimbank Sunshine Branch was one of those libraries.

In 2007/08, a team from The University of Melbourne's Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation conducted 58 conservation assessments of local history collections held by 34 participating public libraries, Brimbank Sunshine Branch was one of those libraries.

This report is the Conservation Assessment on the Brimbank Library Sunshine Branch local history collection.
