Photograph - Old Art Deco ceiling, Port Melbourne Council Chamber, David Thompson, 27 Jun 2006

Historical information

In June 2006, damage (from a leak in the roof?) to the ceiling and walls in the Council Chamber at Port Melbourne Town Hall exposed what looked like the Art Deco ceiling decoration and wallpaper from the 1938 renovation designed and installed by City Engineer, Fred Cook. The Council Chamber was subsequently renovated in a simple style sympathetic to the Victorian period of the Town Hall's original construction.
