Photograph of Brookes Beach, St Kilda, viewed from the south and looking towards St Kilda. The tall white building is Edgewater Towers, 12 Marine Parade. Built in 1961, it was Melbourne's first high-rise residential apartment block and introduced a new concept of luxury 'own your own' apartment living that encouraged the building of similar apartment blocks. It is said to have secured the reputation of architect Mordechai Benshemesh as a leading designer of high-density residential developments in Melbourne.
