Photo of MESCo tram 4 on a test run on 10/1/1912 from the News of the Week magazine, photo by W H Watts. The tramway was formally opened on 14/3/1912, The photo is of a test run at around 5 in the morning. Most of the passengers are employees. Taken in Corio Terrace. See also Last Tram at 11, p153. This was how No. 4 was always thought of the first tram. Second copy used as a postcard by Kodak Australia.

Significance

Yields information about Geelong tram 4 being the first tram to operate at the time of the opening of the system in 1912 and the reproduction of the photograph by Kodak.

Physical description

Black and white photograph with a plain back. Second copy in a postcard format which has been used by a Mrs Wood of 62 Clarendon St Chillwell.
