Historical information
There was strong community opposition to the planned closure of the St Kilda line after 130 years of operation. The line officially closed on 31 July 1987. In the front line on the left is Clyde Holding MP (federal Member for Melbourne Ports). On the right is Andrew McCutcheon MLA (State Member for St Kilda). The group is walking along the Esplanade towards Fitzroy Street.
