Save St Kilda Train protest in March 1981. The group is in Alfred Square. The Boer War memorial is behind them. The men in the foreground are, from left, Clyde Holding MP (federal Member for Melbourne Ports) and Andrew McCutcheon MLA (State Member for St Kilda). There was strong community opposition to the planned closure of the St Kilda line after 130 years of operation. The line officially closed on 31 July 1987.
