Summary

Article Page 85: Batman's Treaties by Rex Harcourt

On 6th June 1835, John Batman negotiated two treaties with the Aborigines of Port Phillip.

The main treaty, the "Melbourne Deed", was for 500,000 acres and covered not only land in the Melbourne Area but also that stretched along the western arm of Port Phillip Bay to include the present city of Geelong.

The "Geelong Deed" of 100,000 acres skirted Geelong to the south as far as the south coast of Victoria and included the Bellarine Peninsula which was then known as Indented Head.

Sunshine & District was included in the "Melbourne Deed".
