Newspaper - Newspaper clipping, John Lamb, Nurse who saw horrors of war looks to life's brighter side, Tuesday 28 February 1989

Historical information

Mrs Muriel Andrews, 77, has spent the past nine months in hospital, but she has not lost her vitality.
Muriel was called up as a nurse in 1942 after the bombing of Pearl Harbour. Stationed at a hospital near Port Moresby Muriel saw many casualties who, due to the length of time it took for them to arrive at hospitals, had not just terrible wounds, but infection in them. Muriel will admit to having felt bitter towards the Japanese during the war, particularly in a moment she was tasked with giving a Japanese soldier a needle while wishing it was a big screw.
Muriel now has the attitude of forgive and forget towards the Japanese but will never forget her friends who were killed at their hands.
