Historical information
The Freemason's Tavern was established on the corner of Beach and Stokes Streets in 1859 next to the Masonic Hall used by the Sandridge Marine Lodge No 21 at 18 Stokes Street. It became the Sandridge Hotel in the 1940s by which time the building had been remodelled in a moderne style. The Sandridge Hotel was demolished in early 2007 except for a single wall in Stokes Street that remained, propped up, before it too was demolished in March, 2007. A reconstructed 'Victorian' version of the hotel was incorporated into the apartments built on the site.
