Historical information

Nurse Isabel Kilpatrick graduated from St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne Training School in 1937. During the three training years, nurses wore a cap. At graduation, nurses gained their nursing or "sisters" veil or " captail". It was worn proudly as recognition of achievement and identified the sister as now a Victorian State Registered Nurse or SRN.

Physical description

Very fine white organza fabric veil. It has machine embroidered dark navy capital letters "SRN VICTORIA" on one end. The veil has a deep pulled- thread, hand- stitched hem.
