Newspaper - Bendigo Advertiser Fire Addition, 30/07/1962

Historical information

On the 29th of July 1962 at about 2.30am fire broke out at the Bendigo Advertiser building. It was two hours by the time the fire was noticed and as a result the building, all its equipment, paper stores and files were beyond saving. In all its history the "Advertiser" had never missed an edition and this was no exception. An emergency edition was printed in Echuca and other regional papers assisted with printing until the "Advertiser" equipment could be replaced.
Ron Penna was born in Bendigo in 1935. He worked at the Bendigo Advertiser newspaper from 1952 as a printer and foreman from 1968. He retired in 1995.
