Newspaper article about the heroism of Australian soldier, Corporal Leslie "Bull" Allen.Mr Allen has been inducted into the Oregon National Guard's Hall of Honor and earned the US Silver Star for carrying a dozen US soldiers down Mount Tambu in New Guinea under heavy Japanese fire in 1943. He also earned Australia's highest honor for enlisted men, the Military Medal, for his rescue of Australian soldiers.
Leslie Allen's widow, Jean Allen, attended the induction ceremony in Oregon, United States, to commemorate American-Australian Armed Forces Day. She wore the six medals she had earned as a war-time nurse.
