Photograph show W2 class 304 with major side damage derailed at the intersection of Swanston Street and Flinders Street. It appears that 304 was crossing Flinders Street bound for the City terminus on route 6 when it was struck with major force at its centre by a heavy vehicle or tram travelling westbound. Tramway emergency crew members are shown examining and jacking the tram in an attempt to rerail it. A policeman on point duty stands by as crowds cross Flinders Street from the railway station.
