The New Bendigo Gold Project began surface workings at the Carshalton site in Kangaroo Flat, in 1998. A decline tunnel was constructed and designed to reach a depth of 800 m below the surface, passing underneath historic workings. The information brochure was produced to provide information to Bendigo community members.
