Photograph - North Fitizroy Depot Opening Day 1955, 1955

Historical information

Photograph shows newly built W7 class car 1020 inside the newly built North Fitzroy car shed in at the Nicholson Street central bus depot. The tram shows a destination of Special and approx 10 suited men with hats stand in clusters either side of the tram with one at the controls. These men may be Board members and senior officers inspecting the new facilities. This shed, the new East Preston Depot and 40 W7 tramcars were constructed to service the newly built electric line along Bourke Street to East Brunswick and East Preston - just before Melbourne hosted the 1956 Olympic Games. This is likely an official M&MTB photograph.
