The 'Shamrock Hotel', Bendigo has long been a landmark in Bendigo. The Shamrock Hotel, established in 1854, is a historic Bendigo landmark with a rich goldrush-era heritage and distinctive Victorian architecture.
Early Origins.
The Shamrock Hotel began as The Exchange Hotel in 1854, serving miners during the Victorian gold rush and including a Cobb & Co office and a concert hall known as the Theatre Royal. In 1855, it was renamed The Shamrock, quickly becoming a popular venue for miners and hosting performances, including a notable appearance by Lola Montez, where gold nuggets were thrown at her feet as tips. The Bendigo Shakespeare and Literary Society also performed at the theatre from 1861.
