Historical information

The photograph shows the bus/cable tram transfer or changeover during the conversion of the Brunswick line from cable to electric trams at the Leonard St crossover. This changeover occurred from 17/11/1935 to 11/1/1936. There are three MMTB buses, one cable tram in the view along with a pointsman cabin and a number of people. The photograph shows the layout of Royal Parade with lights, new poles for the future electric trams and the bluestone slabs for the kerbing known as dinosaur teeth.

Significance

Yields information about the changeover between cable and buses during the conversion of the Brunswick St line late 1935.
