Historical information
Tottenham Technical School operated from 1957 to 1991.
It was part of the post‑war expansion of technical education in Melbourne’s west, serving the rapidly growing industrial belt around Tottenham, West Footscray, Braybrook and Sunshine.
The school provided trade‑oriented education: engineering, metalwork, woodwork, technical drawing, applied sciences and practical subjects aligned with local industry. It became a major feeder for apprenticeships at nearby factories including the rail workshops, ammunition factories, and manufacturing plants.
Tottenham Technical School was renamed Tottenham Community Secondary College, still carrying its original school number
In 1991, a major restructure of schools in the Sunshine district occurred and six schools were merged to form Sunshine College.
Tottenham Technical School was closed, and its site did not continue as a Sunshine College campus.
The former Tottenham Technical School site became the Tottenham English Language Centre, which still operates today.
