Introduced in 1974, the Braille Book of the Year was created to both acknowledge excellence in writing as well as raise the profile of Braille books. In 1997, the award was won by 'The Solitude of Illusions' by Adib Khan. The Bathurst Award for Narrator of the Year award went to Bruce Kerr for the audio version of "The Drowner".
