Historical information
St Albans Railway Station was at one stage the terminus of the suburban electrification service, an honour that it lost to Watergardens Station (Sydenham) in 2002, and subsequently to Sunbury in 2012.
With the increase in train traffic, both in suburban electrification service and in the country diesel service, the gates at the St. Albans Railway Station caused significant road traffic delays including causing several fatalities.
The removal of these gates including the construction of a new underground station were completed as part of the State Government Grade Separation Project works in November 2016.
Significance
These photographs capture the gates, Main Road East & Main Road West and the surrounding shops on the 25th May1969.
