Assorted lead shot bullets used by St Kilda Rifle Club around Head Street, Elwood, near Port Phillip Bay.
The numbers 450, 500, and 600 refer to bullet and ball diameters measured in thousandths of an inch (i.e., 0.450", 0.500", and 0.600"). While .600" are classic round lead balls for muskets, .450" and .500" typically denote heavier, conical big-game cartridges. Both types were historically made by melting lead and shaping it, though they utilized very different manufacturing methods
