Historical information
St Kilda was declared a city on 2/12/1890. In commemoration of the centenary, a conservatory in the St Kilda Botanical Gardens was opened on 2/12/1990 by the Mayor, Cr. Melanie Eagle, at a Garden Festival.
Four years later, in 1994, the City of St Kilda was amalgamated with the cities of South Melbourne and Port Melbourne to form the City of Port Phillip.
