A photograph of a man driving a John Deere Tractor pulling an HST header with man on panel van with gas producer rear of header The HST Header was named after inventer Headley S Taylor later head designer for McKay Massey Harris This header enabled a wind or rain damaged crop to be harvested as it lay on the ground Before this header the crop could only be cut if it was standing upright Notice gas producer on van used during war 1939 to 1945 when petrol was severely rationed The HST Header was fitted with a standard front comb knife bar for harvesting grain Taylor developed an attachment called crop lifter to attach to front to enable crops flattened by storm or rain to be lifted sufficiently allowing the harvesting of grain
