John "Jack" Downing was the second Mayor of the City of Sunshine, elected in 1952. He was a Life Member of the Sunshine Football Club, His services to the club included boundary umpire, timekeeper and president. The donation of the two tinplate drink coaster engraved S.D.F.C. Services Render to J. Downing. The items were donated to the Sunshine & District Historical Society was by his son Ian Downing
