Booklet - Keilor 150 Years of Local Government, Keilor Historical Society, Curated by Susan Jennison OAM and Dorothy Minkoff, 2013

Historical information

This booklet celebrates the 150th year of local Government in Keilor.

Significance

The 150th year of local government in Keilor marks the anniversary of Keilor’s first incorporation as a local governing body, a milestone that traces back to 3 March 1863, when Keilor was formally established as a Road District.

Subsequent milestones:

22 December 1871 — Becomes the Shire of Keilor.

29 April 1961 — Proclaimed the City of Keilor.

15 December 1994 — City of Keilor abolished during statewide council amalgamations.

So, the 150th anniversary in 2013 celebrated the beginning of Keilor’s civic identity, long before it became a shire, a city, or was later divided into Brimbank, Moonee Valley, and Hume City Councils.
